Wat Chedi Luang Varavihara Chiang Mai

Wat Chedi Luang is a must- see temple to visit when in Chiang Mai. It is located within the historic centre of the town and houses the City pillar. The main attraction here is the chedi which is in the centre of the compound. You can walk around it and admire it from all directions. The compound is large with a number of beautiful buildings within. In the main Viharn is a standing Buddha statue, flanked by two disciples. On the other side of the chedi is another pavilion housing a reclining Buddha statue.

The murals within the chedi building are stunning, but currently only open for men.

The historic Wat (temple)is a place for meditation and the ancient décor has been maintained over many years.

This is a religious site and there is a dress code. Ladies are requested to cover shoulders and stomach as well as wearing a modest dress length. Men should wear tops.
