The Wine Merchant Company opens store and tasting room in Phuket
The Wine Merchant Company Limited (TWM) has opened a store in Phuket, which has its own tasting room and which will be retailing fine wines at reasonable prices to Phuket and other nearby islands.
The Wine Merchant is located at 8/67 Moo 3, Cherngtalay, Thalang, Phuket 83110, with business hours between 11am and 11pm, seven days a week.
On hand to supply expert advice and guidance is certified sommelier Pakpoom Towatcharakun, who in the course of his career has competed in and won every sommelier competition available in Thailand, and has also represented Thailand overseas at events in Malaysia, Japan and Indonesia.
Sommelier Pakpoom will on request conduct wine classes and tasting events, and with his experience of working in luxury hotels is able to offer advice on gourmet dining and banqueting.
With a style reminiscent of a Florentine winery, the Wine Merchant and tasting room has rustic wood and plaster walls, with wine racks holding bottles and casks extending to the ceiling, and comfortable leather club-style seating. This makes the shop more than a store, but a destination in which to take like-minded friends.
TWM’s reputation has from the beginning been based on supplying both the finest wines and the cult anomalies, and all at the fairest prices. Nan Pattira and Aman Sachdev founded the company as an importer and distributor in 2012. In 2016 they opened La Casa Nostra Wine Bar & Italian Restaurant in Bangkok, in collaboration with Chef Alessandro Frau of the famed Acqua Restaurant in Phuket. In 2021, TWM opened its first store in Thailand at Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Bangkok.
“We feel that a wine shop is where wine lovers should be able to browse, to discuss wines with genuine experts, and also to be able to taste the wines in a setting that has the cosiness of a clubroom,” says Aman Sachdev. “One aspect of the tastings is that we are able to offer wines from very small vineyards, many of them family owned, and if a customer shows a specific interest we can place advance orders and secure supplies.”
TWM works closely with top winemakers and producers, mainly from Italy and France, and imports and distributes more than 100 highly sought after wineries on an exclusive basis in Thailand.
